Hafnarfjörður is seeking to appoint a foreman for gardening at the Service Centre. The Service Centre is part of the Department of Environment and Planning and is located at Norðurhóll 2. This is a 100% full-time position.

The Hafnarfjörður Service Centre has 20 full-time equivalent posts, and its staff carry out a very wide range of maintenance tasks in areas of the town as well as at its institutions.

Key responsibilities and duties:

• Responsible for the supervision of equipment operators, other staff and relevant contractors, e.g. summer staff. Responsible for the tasks assigned to them at any given time.
• Maintenance, monitoring and management of vegetation in open spaces. Involved in plant selection and providing advice on vegetation, soil and care.
• Maintenance, monitoring and care of vegetation in open spaces
• Maintenance, repairs and inspection of outdoor benches, tables and benches, flagpoles, flagpoles with crests, tree frames and supports, etc.
• Various work concerning Christmas decorations, festive celebrations, elections and various events organised by the town.

Educational and competency requirements:

• Practical examination in ornamental horticulture/gardening
• Experience in similar roles, such as gardening and environmental work. 
• Experience in management is an advantage. 
• Experience of driving larger vehicles and machinery
• Physically able to carry out the duties of the job and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
• Good command of Icelandic and English, both spoken and written.
• Additional driving licence for goods vehicles over 3,500 kg.
• Heavy goods vehicle licence
