Hvammur Nursery School is looking for a special educational needs coordinator for a 100% to 103% post.

Hvammur is a six-class nursery school in a sheltered and beautiful location at Staðarhvammur 23 in Hafnarfjörður, just above the Suðurbær swimming pool.

The nursery's motto is positive communication, equality and friendship.

The nurseries of Hafnarfjörður have introduced improved working hours, based on a 36-hour working week for all staff. Staff in the Association of Early Years Educators and the Association of Occupational Therapists have opted for an arrangement whereby their academic year is comparable to that of primary school teachers. These staff members therefore take reduced working hours around Christmas and New Year, during the winter break in primary schools, in the week before Easter, and with longer periods off in the summer.

Key responsibilities and duties:

• Working with the upbringing and education of nursery school children
• To be responsible for and manage the planning, implementation and evaluation of special educational provision in collaboration with other managers of the nursery.
• To act as the professional special educational needs coordinator at the nursery, providing advice to other nursery staff and information to parents.
• Managing the nursery's educational and learning resources related to special educational needs.
• Responsible for ensuring that children receiving special tuition at the nursery school are offered developmental activities. 
• Provides support, education and advice to parents/guardians of children receiving special educational needs. 
• Provides specialist tuition for children and groups of children through intervention.
• Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior. 

Educational and competency requirements:

• Teacher's licence (copy of licence to be attached to the application)
• Postgraduate education (M.Ed) in special education desirable
• Experience of working in special education
• A sincere interest in the success of all children
• Skill and dexterity in communication
• Initiative, independence in working methods and professional ambition
• Experience of working in teams
• Very good Icelandic skills, at a minimum C1 according to ETM Self-Assessment Framework (coe.int)

Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Icelandic Teachers' Association or the Association of Occupational Therapists of Iceland.
