Hamravellir Health Nursery School is looking to hire an ambitious member of staff for a temporary position.

This is a fixed-term contract for 6 months, with the possibility of a permanent position.

At the Hamravellir Health Nursery School, a team of professional and fun-loving staff are looking for some reinforcements. Hamravellir is located in the inner part of Völlunum in Hafnarfjörður, where there is easy access to unspoilt nature. Hamravellir is a health nursery school where the emphasis is on a healthy diet, outdoor play, exercise and creativity. The nursery's motto is movement, creativity and well-being. Its values are play and care.

The nurseries of Hafnarfjörður have introduced improved working hours, based on a 36-hour working week for all staff.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Works in the upbringing and education of children at a nursery school under the guidance and direction of the department manager and the school's management.
  • Participates in nursery and after-school activities within the nursery and other activities that take place during the school day.
  • Keep a close eye on the welfare of children and nurture them mentally and physically in accordance with the nature and needs of each individual, so that they can enjoy themselves as individuals.
  • Participates in and contributes to the ideation and planning of recreational and leisure activities within the nursery.
  • Assists children at mealtimes and handles preparation and tidying up.
  • Operates in accordance with the laws and regulations for nurseries, other applicable laws, and the National Curriculum for Nurseries.

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Experience in childcare or teaching is desirable.
  • Experience of similar work in a nursery is an advantage.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills
  • Initiative and autonomy in work methods
  • Very good knowledge of Icelandic, at a minimum C1 according to the ETM Self-Assessment Framework (coe.int)

A clean criminal record is a condition.

Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Hlíf Trade Union, or KÍ if an individual with teacher training applies for the post.
