Hafnarfjörður is seeking a strong, ambitious and forward-thinking individual for the position of Planning and Building Officer. This is a key senior management role for an individual who wants to participate in the town's development, build upon its continued excellent service, and work with a strong team to ensure that Hafnarfjörður remains a vibrant, beautiful, and outstanding town for its residents, business community, and visitors. Key responsibilities and duties:
- To lead and be responsible for the operations of the office of the planning and building officer.
- To manage the strategy, development and implementation of new priorities in planning and building matters.
- Ensuring professional working practices, good governance and exemplary service.
- Lead a strong team of specialists and build a strong team spirit.
- Work on the preparation of master and detailed plans, urban development, and the professional handling of planning and building matters.
- Provide advice, guidance and information to residents, elected representatives, professionals and other stakeholders.
- Oversee building permit applications, building control, inspections and other important aspects of the sector.
Educational and competency requirements:
- Higher education, pursuant to Article 7 of the Organisational Act No. 123/2010 and Articles 8 and 25 of the Building Regulations Act No. 160/2010
- Experience as a planning officer and as a building control officer
- Successful management experience and experience in personnel management
- Proven experience in leading teams, fostering collaboration and motivating people to achieve success.
- Leadership skills, drive and ambition to succeed
- Excellent communication skills and a strong service-minded attitude
- Good knowledge of planning and building legislation and the working environment of public administration.
- Experience with planning programmes, including cost and financial budgeting.
- Experience of the review of principal drawings
- Experience and knowledge of carrying out final inspections
- Good command of Icelandic and English, both spoken and written.
- Very good computer skills
