Arnarberg Nursery School is advertising for a teacher for a 100% position.
Arnarberg works purposefully on literacy and a literacy-enriching environment, with an emphasis on creating a stimulating environment for learning to read. Emphasis is also placed on physical activity, and the school has use of Bjarkarhúsið, which is next to the school.
The school's environment is calm and peaceful and benefits from its location, being close to the town centre, bus routes, Hellisgerði and the creek.
Kindergartens in Hafnarfjörður have introduced improved working hours, which involve a 36-hour working week for all staff. Staff in the Association of Playgroup Teachers and the Association of Occupational Therapists have voted for an arrangement whereby their academic year is comparable to that of primary school teachers. These employees therefore take their reduced working hours around Christmas and New Year, during the winter holidays in primary schools, in the week before Easter, and through extended time off in the summer.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Working with the upbringing and education of nursery school children
- Taking part in the planning of professional work
- Participating in parent collaboration in consultation with the Head of Year
- Other duties as described in the job description
Educational and competency requirements:
- Teaching licence (attached)
- A sincere interest in the success of all children
- Experience in childcare or teaching young children is desirable.
- Communication and teamwork skills
- Initiative and independence in work methods and professional ambition
- Good knowledge of Icelandic

If a qualified teacher cannot be found, it may be considered to appoint a university graduate or a person with experience of working with children, in accordance with Act no. 95/2019. We encourage all interested parties to apply.

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the collective agreement of the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Félag leikskólakennara (Association of Preschool Teachers).
