Swimming pools closed on 19 and 20 December
Due to a fault at the Hellisheiði power station, there is currently no hot water production. For this reason, all swimming pools in the capital region will have to close on 19 and 20 December.
Updated 19 Dec at 16:00
Repairs are still underway and the fault was more extensive than initially thought. Production of hot water at the Hellisheiði power station is now partially operational, but the repairs are not expected to be fully completed until this evening. After the repair is complete, it will take about half a day to replenish water reserves to meet full demand. It is therefore clear that swimming pools in the capital region will not open tomorrow morning. The situation will be reassessed tomorrow.

Notice 19 December at 10:32
Due to a fault at the Hellisheiði power station, no hot water is currently being produced. Consequently, the total production capacity for the capital region's geothermal heating system is reduced by at least 20%. For this reason, all swimming pools in the capital region will have to close today. It is hoped that the closure will only last until the end of the day. A team from Orku Náttúrunnar is on site and repairs have begun.
