Disruption to school activities
Guidance on disruption to school activities for parents and school staff
Guardians must assess for themselves whether children need to be accompanied to school or after-school activities. During an orange weather warning, there is a greater need to accompany children to school. It is worth bearing in mind that it can often be windy in higher areas. If the weather includes icy or snowy conditions, the likelihood of needing an escort increases. In the morning, parents/guardians must ensure that a member of staff is available to receive their children upon arrival at school, as there may be some disruption to the school day due to the weather. It may be delayed in staffing the school, and parents/guardians should therefore expect to be asked for assistance by staff. Parents/guardians are encouraged to be accommodating to such requests.
Weather warning notice on the Met Office website
South winds of 20-28 m/s are forecast, with very sharp gusts. The strongest winds will be in the upper elevations and along the coast. Heavy precipitation, sleet or snowfall is forecast. It is essential to secure any outdoor items to prevent wind damage. Boat owners are also urged to take precautions, as there will be a large tidal range at the same time.
