The exhibition „Queer Autism“ is a collection of portraits of individuals who are queer and identify on the autism spectrum, with or without a diagnosis.

Photographer Eva Ágústa, who is herself trans and on the autism spectrum, has in recent years focused on telling stories about people based on her own ideas about them.

From a young age, she has observed how individuals and society behave in an effort to better fit into society, a common experience among autistic people. Autistic people often become outsiders because of their perception of the world around them. Today, Eva uses this unconventional perception as a strength in her images.

The exhibition „Queer Autism“ is Eva's attempt to increase the visibility of these two groups, who tend to get lost in society and become invisible. Eva approached the project by immersing herself in the subjects on a very personal level, and from there, she photographed the people in the environment where they feel most comfortable. Eva blends natural light with artificial lighting to create the persona she sees and which the individuals themselves approve of.

Eva studied photography at the Technical College in Reykjavík in 2009 and completed her master's degree in autumn 2011. She took a break from photography for a few years but has recently found her niche again and has, among other things, been involved in several projects focused on telling people's stories.

The exhibition is produced in collaboration with the Autism Association.
