Sveinshús will be open on the first Sunday of each month this summer from 13:00 to 17:30. Sveinshús, which is blue in colour, is visible from the silage towers in Krýsuvík, and the turning for the house is marked with a sign from the Road Administration. As usual, coffee and refreshments will be served, and there will be guided tours of the exhibition and the house.

It has been decided to extend the exhibition MY WIFE, which has been on display for the past two years, for a further year, as many people have expressed an interest in seeing it but missed it last summer. For those wishing to return, it should be noted that two paintings have been replaced and four new ones added, which further illuminate the exhibition's theme. This is the tenth and most extensive exhibition the Sveinssafn has staged in Sveinshús since its inception. The installation is inspired by the so-called „salon“ exhibitions in France during the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as by the biblical pictorial narratives on the walls and ceilings of medieval churches. The exhibition has received great praise from visitors, and we therefore strongly encourage those who have not yet seen it, but who have an affinity for the art of Sveinn Björnsson, to come and „see his art in a whole new light“, as many visitors have remarked. – while there is still an opportunity to do so.

The exhibition MY WOMAN takes in visual works from the fantasy period of the artist Sveinn Björnsson (1925-1997), which feature a female face that has at various times been identified with the Madonna, the Krýsuvíkur Madonna, a hidden woman, a woman of mystery, a holy woman or a muse of art. In other words, the artist's woman as she appears in his visual world and, in a certain way, also in his real world. It can be seen that Sveinn Björnsson works with visual motifs in his artistic world during his fantasy period, which lasted from around 1958 to 1992. He presents these leitmotifs in various ways in his works, combining them so that a new meaning is created; thus, it inevitably somewhat resembles Richard Wagner's method of operatic composition (Leitmotiv). No need to draw parallels. All this and more in the guide to the exhibition MY WIFE. You are welcome.
