Beloved ones remembered under the Tree of Sorrow

News

The idea behind the Tree of Remembrance in Hellisgerði is for all those who have lost a loved one to be able to sit beneath the tree and remember those who have passed away, at this bittersweet time of year that Christmas is for the bereaved. The Bereavement Tree is also intended to draw attention to the plight of bereaved people at this time of year. The Bereavement Tree in Hellisgerði will be lit on Sunday, 26th November.

The Christmas-decorated Hellisgerði has become a fixture in many people's Christmas celebrations, and this beautiful garden envelops us as we walk through it. It was therefore an easy decision where the Bereavement Centre's Tree of Remembrance would be located. The idea behind the Bereavement Tree is that all those who have lost a loved one can sit under the tree and remember those who have passed away, at this bittersweet time that Christmas is for bereaved people. The Bereavement Tree is also intended to draw attention to the plight of those who are grieving at this time of year. With the arrival of the tree, a cosy and beautiful place can be offered in the heart of Hafnarfjörður, providing light and warmth for the bereaved. Sometimes, due to distance, we are unable to visit the graves of our loved ones, so it is good to have more local places to spend time with ourselves and our memories of them. Hellisgerði is almost magical, and the garden is well-suited to holding all the memories that come to mind as we walk around. You could say that the Tree of Sorrow thrives on memories and flourishes with them over time.

All about the Bereavement Centre at St. Jó's Wellbeing Centre

The Christmas tree is at its best over Christmas.

The Tree of Grief will be lit in Hellisgerði on 26 November. We will meet at the St. Jó Wellbeing Centre in Hafnarfjörður at 5 p.m., where the chairperson of the Bereavement Centre will say a few words about Christmas and grief. Afterwards, we will walk together to Hellisgerði, where the Kópavogur Women's Choir will sing a few songs before the Tree of Remembrance is lit. The idea behind the Tree of Remembrance is that all those who have lost a loved one can sit under the tree and remember those who have passed away, during this bittersweet time that Christmas is for the bereaved. The Bereavement Tree is also intended to draw attention to the situation of bereaved people who are grieving at this time of year. The Bereavement Tree is at its most beautiful over Christmas, but then it is dressed in different outfits throughout the seasons.  The Bereavement Centre would like to encourage bereaved people to sit under the tree at any time, thereby enveloping it in beautiful memories and love.
