Mayor of Akureyri visits the Borough of Hafnarfjörður

Akureyri has been the twin town of the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður since 1999.

Ásthildur Sturludóttir, Mayor of Akureyri, and her delegation met with Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, Mayor of Hafnarfjörður, and representatives of the municipality this week. They shared experiences and were given a presentation on the municipality's comprehensive strategic plan for 2035.

Representatives of the municipalities discussed the main projects in the family and child affairs sector, as well as in the education and public health sector, and discussed the municipality's finances and services. The group also visited the Quality of Life Centre, where project manager Gerður Björk Guðjónsdóttir presented the activities in the building. The visitors from Akureyri took a walk around the town, admired the glasshouses at Thorsplan and visited Hellisgerði.

Hafnarfjörður has been a twin town of Akureyri since 1999, for a quarter of a century. The towns have much in common and were able to compare notes, discussing challenges in their systems, such as digital implementation, which is a key priority to ensure the best possible benefits for residents.
