This spring, a competition was held for the promotion of the 'Velkomin – Resources for Reception and Communication' project. Hafnarfjörður buys the main building of St. Joseph's Hospital from the state. Public services will be operational in the building again. The Hafnarfjörður Town Council approved at its meeting this morning to grant a subsidy of 1,000,000 króna to the 'Friendship in Action' project. The project and collection were initiated in response to a tidal wave that struck the Greenlandic village of Nuugattsiaq in the early hours of Sunday, 18 June, resulting in four deaths and the destruction of eleven houses, including the village's power supply, shop and primary school.
