At the meeting of the Environmental and Executive Council of Hafnarfjörður on 29th May, traffic issues in Ásland 3 and 4 were taken up for discussion again. The council decided to reverse its decision from the meeting on 13th May regarding the continued closure between Vörðuás and Skógarás. Traffic will therefore be reopened between Vörðuás and Skógarás as stipulated by the approved plan. The closure between Brekkuás and Skógarás was a temporary measure during the area's infrastructure development.
Skógarás is part of the road network of Ásland 4.
In the approved plan for Ásland 4, Skógarás is part of that neighbourhood and is therefore connected to its road network. As the streets connecting Skógarás to Ásvallabraut have now been tarmacked as part of the road network development in Ásland 4, a closure will now take place between Brekkuás and Skógarás, and traffic will be opened between Vörðuás and Skógarás. In connection with these closures, a new roundabout is being built at the end of Skógarás, and work on this is now beginning. After the closure, residents of Skógarás will use Vörðuás to get down to Ásvallabraut. Signs are being put up as a reminder at Brekkuás and Ásvallabraut.
A natural gem on the southern slopes of Ásfjall
Ásland 4 is the newest development area in Hafnarfjörður, a residential district that follows on from the neighbouring areas of Ásland 3 and new housing estates in Skarðshlíð and Hamranes. The area is defined by the Ásfjall with Mógrafarhæð, which penetrates the area from the north, the residential development of Ásland 3 to the north-east, Ásvallabraut to the east and south, and new residential development in Skarðshlíð and Hamranes to the west.
