Creative summer jobs – Eli

News

Eli Frost Ara, or „Fogety“ as he is known through his music, has been writing music for the last 11 years through various projects and bands, but is now working on an EP through the Creative Summer Jobs in Hafnarfjörður, which takes inspiration from the town's diverse sounds.

„My name is Eli Frost Ara or „Fogety'„...as people would recognise me through my music. I've been writing music for the last 11 years through various projects and bands, but I've lived in Hafnarfjörður since I was five and have always loved this town.“

Has released 13 albums

„I have always had a great interest in music, playing instruments, writing and performing songs, and I have spent the last six years learning how to make general audio recordings and do music production. I have released 13 albums in total, but only two albums and two EPs under the name „Fogeti“. This summer I have been writing, recording, mixing and mastering a five-track EP that blends dramatic pop, rock, rap and ambient synth solos.“

Inspiration from the sounds of Hafnarfjörður

„The single contains various sounds that can be found all over Hafnarfjörður, as it draws its inspiration from the town, whether it's the birdsong by Hvaleyrarvatn, people chatting together at Pallett, or the waves in the sea. Working with Creative Summer Jobs has given me the opportunity to work on my music uninterrupted, and as a result, I have finished five songs that probably wouldn't have been created otherwise. This is such a fantastic opportunity for young artists, to use the summer to cultivate their craft and get it out there.“

Cosy concert on 1 September

„The single is called „MYTHOS“ and will be released on all streaming platforms. 1st September. On the same day, I'll be holding an intimate gig at Hamran, where I'll be playing all the songs from the record along with other original songs. Free entry and all welcome!

About Creative Summer Jobs 2023

In the summer of 2021, the City of Hafnarfjörður, in collaboration with the town's youth centre, Hamarinn, decided to revive the “Creative Summer Jobs” project, which had been run in the summer of 2017. Individuals and groups aged 18-23 were also invited to submit ideas for creative projects in Hafnarfjörður. Selected groups were given the opportunity to work on various creative projects in different artistic fields that would also liven up the town's social life, delighting tourists and residents in one way or another. The staff of Creative Summer Jobs, run as part of the Hafnarfjörður Summer School, are tasked with bringing the town to life, making it more fun, beautiful and diverse with artistic and creative events. The projects are varied and appeal to different age groups and interests. Klara Ósk Elíasdóttir is the project manager for Creative Summer Jobs.

This year, there were nine diverse groups and individuals working as part of the creative summer jobs scheme, and they were featured weekly over the summer.
