Creative summer jobs – Rayan
Rayan is working on an artistic project as part of a creative summer job, which involves a collaboration between artificial intelligence and the human need for artistic creation. The final result will be a high-quality short film about a ritual, inspired by a group of refugees from Venezuela who have found their second home in Hamrin.
Creative Summer Jobs – Rayan Galal Aboul Hosn Zghayer
Rayan is working on an artistic project as part of a creative summer job, which involves a collaboration between artificial intelligence and the human need for artistic creation.
Utilises modern technology to create
Rayan says the main idea behind the project is to show how current technology can help us to process the creative ideas that pop into our heads throughout the day. For individuals who lack the time to work on their artistic creativity, other methods are available that enable everyone to create.
„For example, if you have an idea for a photograph or a work of art, but lack the time to create the piece from scratch, you can use the technology. With artificial intelligence and precise concepts, you can create whatever you desire, all based on your imagination.“
A short film about rituals and refugees finding their second home.
The project also includes the making of a short film about rituals. But it goes further than just being about rituals; the film is inspired by a group of refugees from Venezuela who have found their second home in Hamranes, here in Hafnarfjörður. The short film, titled Whisper of the forest, was filmed in various locations around the town, including at Hvaleyrarvatn and in Hellisgerði.
„The idea behind the ceremony stems from our friendship, originating from different parts of Venezuela, which we never expected to form until we met in Hafnarfjörður.“
Cooperation between humans and artificial intelligence
Rayan says that for the project's visual presentation, he chose more striking concepts and visuals to capture the public's interest, which was made possible through many hours of dialogue and collaboration with artificial intelligence. There are six people involved in the project: Rayan, who directs and edits, among other things, and his friends who act in the short film.
You can follow Rayan's project this summer here on Instagram. Rayan Aboul Hosn (@rayangalal.z) | Instagram, but you will also be able to watch a trailer for the short film there soon. The final project will have its premiere at the Hamarsins Youth Centre on 23 July at 7 p.m.
About Creative Summer Jobs 2023
In the summer of 2021, the City of Hafnarfjörður, in collaboration with the town's youth centre, Hamarinn, decided to revive the “Creative Summer Jobs” project, which had been run in the summer of 2017. Individuals and groups aged 18-23 were also invited to submit ideas for creative projects in Hafnarfjörður. Selected groups were given the opportunity to work on various creative projects in different artistic fields that would also liven up the town's social life, delighting tourists and residents in one way or another. The staff of Creative Summer Jobs, run as part of the Hafnarfjörður Summer School, are tasked with bringing the town to life, making it more fun, beautiful and diverse with artistic and creative events. The projects are varied and appeal to different age groups and interests. Klara Ósk Elíasdóttir is the project manager for Creative Summer Jobs.
This year, there are nine diverse groups and individuals working as part of the creative summer jobs scheme, and they will be featured weekly over the summer.
