The exhibition Anachronism is a group exhibition by three female artists, who explore the concept: What is an anachronism?

Is it the fizzy drink vending machine in a supermarket or a solar watch in an Apple Store? Anachronisms are everywhere, sneaking into our society in various ways. It can be argued that various laws are anachronisms, aged institutions written for a society long since vanished. Looking the other way, people can also be anachronisms: ahead of their time. Have you ever felt like you don't belong in your environment? That your very existence is out of place?

In this exhibition at the Little Gallery, Strandgata 19, from 1-4 December, the three artists will each interpret anachronisms in their own way.

Birna Daníelsdóttir is an artist and biologist who uses a variety of tools to express herself and works extensively with mixed media. Birna draws inspiration from family life and the beauty of everyday life, and does so in this instance as well. Time is a limited resource and, as a society, we have never had so much of it thanks to technology and science. Despite this, most people are overwhelmed by a lack of time and the pressure of trying to appear on top of everything.

Linn Janssen is an artist and illustrator from Germany who works extensively with collage and mixed media. Her works in this exhibition are about biological anachronism. In nature, there are many types of plants that are anachronisms in themselves, adapted to a world that is gone.  Linn directs our attention to these plant species in her collages, which are made from old magazines. What do you do with a million years of evolution that no longer serves any purpose?

Alex Steinþórsdóttir is a Northern artist who creates maximalist works across multiple media. She regularly reinterprets cultural memory to tell new stories. In this exhibition, she explores attitudes towards queerness as a contemporary phenomenon. Society progresses, taking the rights of the queer community with it, as if homosexuality were a modernist origin, newly arrived on the scene and having had no place or time elsewhere. Alex references classical Romantic painting and reinterprets it for queer love. We were always here and we were magnificent.

Birna, Alex and Linn give a warm welcome to all guests.
