Sketches // Sigurjón Már Svanbergsson
Sketching is not about precision but rather about capturing the main points, form and movement on paper. To achieve this…
'Bone-headed Words and Foolish Letters' is an exhibition by the poets Anton Helgi Jónsson and Sigurlín Bjarney Gísladóttir, opening at the Litla Gallerí at Strandgata 19 in Hafnarfjörður on Thursday, 11th April at 6 p.m.
The works in the exhibition tread the line between image and text, where letters and words can be used in a multitude of ways and read in various directions; backwards and forwards, up and down, between lines and against all conventions. The letters that appear to visitors can either stand alone as independent symbols or form words that evoke the memories of individuals and groups. The works have been created by the artists separately, but together they have shaped the overall character of the works as they appear in the exhibition. Some of the works are old, others are new; some are about the past, others about the future, but all of them are about complicating words and finding ways of reading that are not normally practised.
Sigurlín Bjarney Gísladóttir (1975) studied Icelandic and creative writing at the University of Iceland. She has published four poetry collections, one short story collection and one novel. Sigurlín Bjarney works as a teacher at a comprehensive school. Her most recent work was the novel Sólrún, which was published in 2022.
Anton Helgi Jónsson (1955) studied philosophy and literary studies in Stockholm. He published his first poetry collection in 1974 and has since published numerous works in books, magazines and on social media. His most recent work was the poetry collection *The Pretend Games*, which was published in 2022.

Direct Words and Spells is the name of an exhibition that the poets Anton Helgi Jónsson and Sigurlín Bjarney Gísladóttir will open in Litla Gallerýi at Strandgata 19 in Hafnarfjörður on Thursday, 11 April at 18:00.
The works in the exhibition teeter on the edge between images and text, where letters and words can be used in a variety of ways and read in different ways; backwards and forwards, up and down, between the lines and against all conventions. The letters that appear to visitors can either stand alone and be independent symbols or form words that trace the memories of individuals and groups. The poets have created the works separately, but together they have shaped the appearance of the works in the exhibition. Some of the works are old, some are new, some are about history, some about the future, but all of them are about tangled words and different ways of reading.
