At the next Afternoon Tones in Hafnarborg, Friday, 22nd November at 6 p.m., the guitarist offers Andrés Þór to the game a Nordic trio which is composed of, in addition to Andrés, them Frederik Villmow, drummer (Germany/Norway), and Bárði Reinert Poulsen, bassist (Faroe Islands). The duo played several concerts in Norway at the beginning of the summer to a good reception, including at the jazz club Herr Nilsen in Oslo, where the brilliant guitarist Lage Lund was a special guest of the trio. The programme at Hafnarborg will feature original compositions by Andrés, as well as the occasional well-chosen jazz standard.

The concert lasts for about an hour and is free of charge.

The concerts are supported by the Norwegian-Icelandic Cultural Cooperation Fund.


Andrés Þór, guitarist, graduated from the FÍH School of Music, with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, Netherlands. Andrés moved back to Iceland from the Netherlands in 2004 and has been active in the Icelandic music scene ever since, releasing numerous albums both under his own name and as part of various collaborative projects. Andrés also works as a music teacher and Head of Department at MÍT, and as an adjunct lecturer at the Rhythmic Teacher Education Department of the Faculty of Music at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. In 2014, Andrés was named the Artist of the Year for Hafnarfjörður and has received various accolades in the form of nominations for various awards, grants, and artist stipends. In addition to working with many of Iceland's leading musicians, Andrés has also performed in concerts with world-renowned jazz musicians such as Ari Hoenig, Orlando LeFleming, Colin Stranahan, Jens Larsen, Maria Schneider and Perico Sambeat. Andrés has performed widely in Iceland and in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Norway, Spain, the United States and Germany.

Bárður Reinert Poulsen, a bass player, was born and raised in the Faroe Islands but moved to Norway in 2011 where he studied at the renowned jazz department of the Trondheim College of Music, from which he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2014. In 2020, he completed a master's degree from the Norwegian University of Music in Oslo. Bárður is based in Oslo and is a key figure in the city's vibrant jazz scene. He has participated in a wide variety of projects, such as the Espen Berg Trio, Wako, The Fjords, and Karl Bjora's Aperture, as well as touring with the Tore Brunborg Trio, Silje Nergaard and many others. He has performed and toured in around seventeen European countries and on four tours to Japan and China, as well as performing throughout Norway. His bass playing is characterised by precision, yet is also theatrical and environmentally aware.

 Frederik Villmow, a drummer, is based in Oslo and is active in projects such as the Frederik Villmow Trio/Quartet, Cecilie Grundt Quartet and the Olga Konkova Project. He has worked with a diverse range of artists such as Tomas Franck, Carl Winther, Vigleik Storaas, Felix Peikli, Bjørn Vidar Solli, Will Vinson, John Pål Inderberg, Sigurður Flosason, Andrés Þór, Mats Holmquist Big Band and Gabriel Pérez SoundTrip Orchestra, as well as Chris Potter. He has released four albums under his own name, which have all received positive reviews from international media outlets such as Japanese Jazz Magazine, Jazz Life Japan, Jazzthing Germany, Jazz DK and UK Vibe. His latest album New York Session featuring three of New York City's most talented jazz musicians, Nicole Glover, Alexander Claffy and David Kikoski. On tour, he has travelled to the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, England, Finland, Estonia, Greece, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
