Svava Dögg (SVAVS) is holding an exhibition at Litla Gallerý on 1st June. The works in this exhibition are the result of the last ten months, during which Svava has sought to explore people and what they say without explicitly saying it.

A special exhibition opening will be held from 12:00 to 18:00 on the same day, and all are welcome.

„In 2013, I first applied to the Academy of Fine Arts but didn't get in. All my life, all sorts of people have told me that I'm such a talented artist, that I'm a genius. So, it came as a surprise to me that I didn't get in, given these incredible talents. I applied four more times but always received the same response, the last time being in 2019. I tried various other courses which I was certainly interested in, but for one reason or another, I didn't last in any of them. The years went by, wrinkles appeared, and my mental health took its toll, which seemed to worsen as time went on.
I was almost convinced that I was a flawed specimen who simply didn't fit into society. And it was nobody's fault; it was the interplay of many factors, the result of which was: me!

So I went to the foundation course at the Reykjavík School of Visual Arts, and I swear, I've just come back to my senses! There I discovered that there really are people like me. Usually, whenever I meet people at random after I started the course, they tell me how pleased they are that I've finally found my niche.

In hindsight, I'm so incredibly grateful I didn't get into the art college all the other times I applied, because then I would have gone in on my own. Now I'm going with such a strong social support network. Yes, so, I got in this time, yay : ) – It's all as it should be.

Two years ago, I was diagnosed with not just a word-blindness, but a people-blindness as well. Although it perhaps wasn't a complete surprise, I found it interesting that you could be diagnosed with it and started to research this aspect of myself further. That is to say, more than usual.

The works in this exhibition are the result of the last ten months, during which I have sought to explore people and what they say, without them explicitly saying it.“

Svava Dögg gives a warm welcome to guests, and everyone is most heartily welcome!
