The Winter Festival will be held from 1–3 February and will take place in all six municipalities of the capital region. This festival of light and darkness consists of three main pillars: Museum Night, Swimming Pool Night and light art installations. Over 150 events are on offer, with numerous artists taking part to create a unique atmosphere in the city. Entry to all Winter Festival events is free.

Swimming Pool Night – Thursday, 1 February, 6 pm–10 pm

Swimming Pool Night is held at Ásvallalaug. with light, darkness and joy, an open swimming session, a bomb competition and swimming pool bingo with Eva Ruzu.

  • 7:30 pm and 9 pm. Beer Pong Tournament – who can get the biggest splash?
  • 8 pm. Open training session with the Gorpas at Hafnarfjörður Swimming Club.
  • 8 pm. Bingo with Eva Ruzu

Museum Night – Friday, 2nd February, 6pm–10pm

The Library, the Folk Museum and Hafnarborg are opening their doors late into the evening and offering an entertaining programme on Museum Night on Friday, 2nd February from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Hafnarfjörður Library

  • 18:00 Children's concert with Little Maja the Strawberry.
  • 19:30 Magical Symbol Workshop with Otilia Martin.
  • Presentations on the work of the museum, audio tour, open in the party corner, presentation of the equipment. 

Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History 

  • 18:00–22:00: Pakkhúsið, Sívertsenhús and Beggubúð open.
  • 6-10 pm Children's treasure hunt.
  • 18:00-22:00 Annríki exhibits bathhouse works at the Sívertsens House..
  • At 7:30 p.m., Dagrún Ósk Jónsdóttir, a folklorist, will give the lecture. „The Moon and the Darkness in Icelandic Folklore“. 
  • At 20:45, the Klassík arts group performs Icelandic and international music..

Port city 

  • 18:00-22:00 Ongoing exhibitions: Jónína Guðnadóttir – Flow measurement and Thor Sigurthorsson – References. 
  • 6:00 p.m. Afternoon Tones on Museum Night: Trio of Hallmundur – Tango for One.
  • 19:30 Nidra meditation: in connection with the exhibition by Þór Sigurþórsson, Reference, A guided meditation by a yoga teacher will be offered, focusing on grounding, time and inner calm. The event is suitable for guests of all ages.  
  • 20:30 Guided tour of the museum's exhibitions with Aldís Arnardóttir, director of Hafnarborg.
