Facelift roundabout
It doesn't always take major projects to change the face of a town. Sometimes, giving the local area a little extra attention is enough. It's often the small changes that make the biggest difference. The traffic islands that thousands drive past every day are among the areas that have received extra care this summer – and it shows.
When the local environment gets increased attention
It doesn't always take major projects to change the face of a town. Sometimes, giving the local area a little extra attention is enough. It's often the small changes that make the biggest difference. The traffic islands that thousands drive past every day are among the areas that have received extra care this summer – and it shows.
Traffic islands as an eye-catching feature
This spring and summer, staff at the Hafnarfjörður Service Centre have been working systematically to beautify selected areas throughout the town. Through planting, tidying and regular maintenance, traffic islands, such as those on Reykjavikurveg and along Fjarðargata towards Fjörukráin, have received extra attention – and are now a real sight to behold for everyone passing by. The planters in the islands have been empty for some time and are now being given new life with the columnar aspan – a medium-sized tree species with a slender, columnar crown that will provide a beautiful streetscape.
Cultivating the local environment
At the same time, numerous residents have sent us suggestions on how things can be improved. We would like to thank them for that. All suggestions are reviewed, assessed and prioritised. Many of them will become part of projects that will be undertaken in the coming quarters. We will continue to nurture our shared local environment – step by step.
