Great force, but few strange fish in Flensburg Harbour

Uncategorised

There was plenty of life and bustle in Flensborg Harbour in Hafnarfjörður yesterday, as nearly 350 anglers aged 6-12 armed themselves with their fishing tackle and competed to catch the most, biggest and strangest fish. Four children received special awards and recognition for their performance with the fishing rods, and of course, the prizes were designed to encourage even braver feats of angling.

There was a good catch of coal and pike.

As in previous years, participants compete in three categories: most fish, biggest fish and oddest fish. This time, there were few odd fish, but plenty of cod and haddock were caught. The person who caught the most fish was 9-year-old Ebba Katrín Aflakló, who caught nine fish. The next best catch was five fish each, caught by 8-year-old Emma Dís and 6-year-old Starkaður. The winner of the biggest fish, 6-year-old Steinar Pálmi, came all the way from Reykjavík to take part, catching a 315g cod.

Open dorg hunting competition for 6-12 year olds

Every year, the play schemes in Hafnarfjörður hold a pike fishing competition at Flensborg Pier, which is open to all children aged 6-12. For over 30 years, the City of Hafnarfjörður has organised this pike fishing competition, which is extremely well attended every year. The anticipation and joy in the children's eyes and demeanour are clearly evident. Summer leisure centre leaders and staff from the Hafnarfjörður Work Club provided strong supervision in the area during the competition, and the sailing club Þytur also had a rescue boat patrolling the area.
