Hafnarfjörður receives the key to a new library
The City of Hafnarfjörður today formally receives the premises for the city's new library in the Firðir shopping centre. It is scheduled to open to residents in early July. The Hafnarfjörður Library will close its current premises on 18 May.
Installation of the equipment at the new location has begun, and preparations for the move are also underway. The handover will be symbolic, with the key in the form of a data key, as it is clear that the future lies in the new library. A digital future, perhaps, but above all, a human one.
The new library building is almost 1,700 square metres in size. Of this, around 550 square metres are in the new Fjörður building at 26-30 Strandgata, which is rising rapidly these days. The alterations and development at Fjörður are the largest project to have taken place in Hafnarfjörður's town centre for decades.
The key handover takes place today at a summer evening in the Firði shopping centre at 18:45. It's open until 21:00, and Bylgjan will be at the heart of it all in Hafnarfjörður. The first 100 guests will receive a goody bag from 6 pm. There will be offers in the shops and product promotions. But what's even more fun is that from 6 pm there will be entertainment; Bjarni Ara, Elvis Presley and María and Sjonni will be keeping the party going.
- The handover of the key will take place at 18:45. Guests of Fjarðar are invited to watch. They will have the opportunity to see the magnificent premises before and after the move.
