Skarðshlíðarskóli is a comprehensive school with pupils in Years 1 to 10. The school building is impressive and the school is well-equipped, with a sports hall, a branch of the Hafnarfjörður Music School and a four-department nursery school in the same building. 

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Teaching Icelandic as a second language
  • Conducts assessment of new students' Icelandic.
  • Take part in reception interviews
  • Working according to the key areas of the National Curriculum for Primary Schools in Icelandic as a Second Language, Cultural Competence and Multilingualism in School Life.
  • Promote the welfare of students in collaboration with parents and other professionals.
  • Working in accordance with the school's policy
  • Working to create a good atmosphere in the school and ensuring the safety and well-being of pupils and staff.
  • Other tasks as per the job description

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Teaching licence (Licence to be attached to the application)
  • Initiative and organised working methods
  • Positivity and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment and being open to a variety of
  • teaching methods.
  • Solid knowledge and experience of teaching Icelandic as a second language.
  • Proficiency in a variety of teaching methods, curriculum adaptation and integration.
  • Agility and positivity in communication and flexibility in work.
  • Extensive computer skills and a good knowledge of G-Suite and Mentor
  • Good command of Icelandic. The proficiency level is based on the C1 criteria of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
  • Interest in team teaching and interdisciplinary collaboration

A condition of employment is that the person has a clean criminal record.

The remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Hafnarfjörður Staff Association.
