Hraunvallaskóli is seeking a teacher to provide pastoral and subject-specific teaching for pupils in the lower secondary school for the 2026-2027 academic year. The position is full-time (100%) and the successful candidate is expected to start on 1 August 2026.
Hraunvallar School is unique in that both a nursery and a primary school are run within its walls. The school operates according to the philosophy of the open school, and the building was designed with this in mind. The curriculum places an emphasis on a structure based on group work, thematic learning, individual work, problem-solving, critical thinking, and students' ability to acquire knowledge and utilise the latest information and communication technology to do so. Teachers work together in teams during lessons and in the planning and preparation of teaching. Pupils in the same year group are in common tutor groups with a shared form tutor in their home areas.

Key responsibilities and duties:
- Responsible for teaching specialist subjects with an emphasis on academic subjects (Icelandic, English, Mathematics, Science, etc.) and for the supervision of pupils at the junior secondary school stage, in consultation with fellow teachers, school management and parents.
- Promotes the welfare of students in collaboration with parents and the school's professional staff.
- Works to develop school operations in collaboration with management and colleagues.
- Works on school-wide skills designed to create a good atmosphere in schools and ensure the safety and well-being of pupils and staff.
- A clear commitment to the school's policy and priorities
- Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.
Educational and competency requirements:
- Teaching licence (copy of licence to be attached to the application)
- Experience of teaching in a primary school is desirable.
- Interest in working with children and young people
- Agility in communication, flexibility and cooperativeness
- Initiative and autonomy in work methods
- Positivity and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment
- Punctuality and conscientiousness
- Good command of Icelandic. The proficiency benchmark C1 is taken as a reference. criteria of the European Language Portfolio.

The salary is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Icelandic Teachers' Association.
