Vidistaðaskóli is seeking to appoint a music teacher.

We at Víðistaðaskóli are looking for a creative, imaginative and driven music teacher to join our excellent team of other art and vocational subjects teachers.

At Víðistaðaskóli, there is a rich tradition of good and robust music education. The music teacher is responsible for student choir on the junior school level, and is involved in teaching art and design and technology, as well as optional subjects on the junior and middle school levels. Every year, Year 10 students put on a musical, which gives the music teacher the opportunity to be involved in an exciting and creative project.  The school is well-equipped and has good facilities.

At school  has just over 500 pupils and around 100 staff. We emphasise diversity, pupil well-being, teamwork/teaching and a variety of teaching methods. The school's values are responsibility, respect and friendship. The school follows the SMT School Skills programme, which focuses on strengthening and promoting positive relationships between pupils and others within the school community. We are a healthy school that cares for our environment in the spirit of the Green Flag.

We have a good working atmosphere and a strong sense of teamwork among the staff at the school.

Key responsibilities and duties: 

  • Teaching music at all levels
  • Works to develop school operations in collaboration with management and colleagues.
  • Promotes the welfare of students in collaboration with parents and professionals.
  • Works in accordance with the school's policy 
  • Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.

Educational and competency requirements: 

  • Teaching licence (copy of licence to be attached to the application)
  • A solid understanding of the pedagogy of subject areas
  • Interest in working with children and young people.
  • Agility in communication, flexibility and cooperativeness.
  • Initiative and independence in work methods.
  • Positivity and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment.
  • Punctuality and conscientiousness
  • Very good Icelandic skills, at a minimum C1 according to Self-assessment framework

The position is 80% and is appointed from 1 August 2026.
