The School of Medicine is recruiting two occupational therapists (occupational therapy team) for an 80–100% post for the 2026-27 academic year.
Lækjarskóli has a history dating back to 1877 and is situated in a beautiful, green environment by the Lækjará in Hafnarfjörður. A new school building was constructed, bright and spacious, and opened in 2002. The school has a swimming pool and a sports hall, among other facilities. There are nearly 500 pupils in total, of whom almost 140 are in the upper school. All pupils from the 5th to the 10th grade are provided with their own tablet to use.
The motto of the School of Nursing is responsibility, respect and safety, and all school activities are reflected in these words. The school operates according to SMT School Skills, which means that the emphasis is on approaching pupils in a positive way, paying more attention to good behaviour and creating a positive school atmosphere.
The School of Nursing has been implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL). UDL is a methodology based on the research of David Rose (Boston Harvard, 1984). UDL provides students with the opportunity to learn in different ways and to demonstrate their skills in different ways. Students are active and have an influence on their own learning, and the aim is to eliminate the barriers that stand in the way of student success.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Working with students with developmental disabilities.
- Planning, providing training, working on social skills, adapting learning materials and learning environments in collaboration with teachers and department heads.
- Promote the welfare of students in collaboration with parents and other professionals.
- Working with students in a special school and in a mainstream school environment.
- Working on the development of school activities alongside other staff at the school.
- Work on creating an individualised programme in collaboration with teachers and the head of department, and follow it through.
- Working on the creation of a visual plan for students.
- Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.
Educational and competency requirements:
- University education in occupational therapy, licence to practise (please attach licence to the application).
- Knowledge and experience of working with students with intellectual disabilities is an advantage.
- Very good Icelandic skills, minimum C1 level, according to the Self-Assessment Framework.
- Initiative and independence in work methods.
- Professional ambition and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment.
- Agility in communication and flexibility in work.
A clean criminal record is required upon employment.

Salary is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Association of Occupational Therapists of Iceland.
