It has been decided that Cancel leisure transport in the City of Hafnarfjörður today. People are urged to to collect their children early from the after-school club which will, however, remain open. Sports clubs have been encouraged to to take appropriate measures and cancel training today. The reason is the snowfall and the orange warning.

Due to the weather and advice from the Civil Protection Authority, the swimming pools of Hafnarfjörður; Ásvallalaug, Suðurbæjarlaug and Sundhöll Hafnarfjarðar will be closed at 14:00 today. The same applies to our library. The customer service centre closes at 15:00.

See the notice from the Civil Defence Operations Command for the Capital Region:

Due to the ongoing snowfall in the capital region, people are strongly urged to stay at home and avoid all non-essential travel. A yellow weather warning is in effect for the area, but this will change to an amber warning at 17:00, with heavy snowfall or sleet and poor visibility still forecast. People who left home this morning are asked to consider returning home as soon as possible (ideally before 3 p.m.), as the roads and weather are only set to worsen as the day progresses. Major travel disruption is expected to continue, and people are urged to be cautious and keep an eye on the weather forecast. This is the day and evening to stay at home and make it a cosy one, not to rush out into the traffic and get stuck! People are asked not to seek services today that can easily wait for a better time, e.g. swimming pools and libraries, as these are encouraged to close. Essential services, however, will remain operational, e.g. healthcare facilities and various welfare services.

It is reiterated, once again, that drivers of inadequately equipped vehicles should not be on the roads in these severe winter conditions. Despite the warnings, this has been a common occurrence today, causing very great difficulties. Inadequately equipped vehicles will be removed at the owners' expense. However, it is best that everyone who possibly can stays at home while the weather passes, regardless of their vehicle's tyre equipment.

Have a good day, and may you all get home safely.
