Cold weather truly presents opportunities that the enthusiastic make the most of. The latest commendable initiative is snow production in Víðistaðatún, where powerful figures in the Skiing- and Ice Sports Club of Hafnarfjörður have deployed two snow cannons to produce snow intended for cross-country skiing on the lawn and even for snowmobile runs on the slope by Víðistaðakirkja. The credit for the initiative goes to Arna Friðriksdóttir, Sigurður Ísólfsson and Sveinbjörn Sigurðsson, whose aim is simple: to create snow that can be used for training on cross-country skis.
The health resort invests in snow cannons
The weather is good for winter sports these days, the only drawback is the lack of snow. The Hafnarfjörður Ski and Ice Skating Club has therefore decided to start producing snow at Víðistaðatún to cater for, among others, the cross-country skiing enthusiasts of Hafnarfjörður and friends of the town. The adventure didn't just begin this week; one of the group, Sveinbjörn, had the idea some time ago that it would be a good idea to have small snow cannons that could be used to make snow for cross-country skiing training and even other fun occasions. As a result, the health-conscious town of Hafnarfjörður agreed to purchase two snow cannons, which are simple to use but require a high-pressure pump and an air compressor. In this way, the town of Hafnarfjörður has sought to support the initiative by participating in the purchase of the right equipment.
A popular winter sport that combines so much
Cross-country skiing has enjoyed ever-increasing popularity in recent years, and a large group of residents in Hafnarfjörður are among its active practitioners. It is a sport for all ages. It is the ideal sport for the whole family, combining togetherness, the great outdoors, exercise and a whole lot of fresh air. It is the hope of Healthy City of Hafnarfjörður that the residents of Hafnarfjörður will take advantage of this initiative, take an active part in its development and, above all, have fun.
