Grants for tuition fees and equipment

Hafnarfjörður draws attention to the opportunity for disabled people who require specific support due to their disability to apply for grants under Article 25 of the Act No. 38/2018 on services for disabled people with long-term support needs.

Applications are open from 1 September.

The grant is intended for social inclusion and rehabilitation, with the aim of enabling disabled people to find employment. The criteria for the grant are that applicants must be resident in Hafnarfjörður, be 18 years of age or older, and have a permanent disability assessment. The application deadline is three weeks, and applications will be processed within three weeks of the deadline.

Local authorities are permitted to provide a grant towards tuition fees that are not paid under the provisions of other legislation. It is also permissible to provide a grant for the purchase of tools and equipment for home-based work or self-employment upon completion of rehabilitation, provided the activity is considered to have value as social training or rehabilitation aimed at facilitating employment for disabled people.
