An international FLY project that promotes film literacy

Students in 7th AMT at Lækjarskóli were in for a real treat when they were invited to take part in a workshop on short film-making, and thereby join an international FLY project that aims to engage with and use film literacy in the teaching of children and young people.

AMT at Lækjarskóli were truly in luck when they were invited to participate in a workshop on short film production and thereby take part in the international FLY project which
aims to engage with and use film literacy in the teaching of children and young people. The acronym FLY stands for Fly Literacy Years and the project is supported by the Children's Cultural Fund and The Animation Workshop/VIA UC in Denmark. 

The origins of the FLY project can be traced back to Denmark, but the project has far-reaching tentacles and is now establishing itself in Iceland. The development of a collaborative network of teachers has begun.

Workshop with Martin Spenner from Lommefilm

7. AMT gave a truly warm welcome to Martin Spenner from Denmark, who was in charge of teaching and running a workshop for the group. Martin began the day by

The day was then spent on teaching, and the students' result was a short film where the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child was the guiding principle. It was a resounding success. Martin, their mentor, was delighted with the result and amazed at how well
The children managed to grasp such a complex subject as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and in English at that. Martin said goodbye to Lækjarskóli.
