Recruitment of an occupational therapist or another university-educated specialist for short-term stays for disabled children – Svöluhraun

The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður is seeking to hire an occupational therapist or a staff member with comparable qualifications for the role. The short-term stay is for disabled children and young people, and the length of their stay varies. The role of the short-term placement is to provide support to children and their families. During their stay, the children and young people receive assistance with their daily tasks, and enjoy care and recreational activities.   

The job is 80-100% and is shift work; the successful candidate must be able to work mornings, evenings, nights and weekends, every other weekend. Work is carried out according to a philosophy. Servant leadership. The successful candidate must be able to start work on 1 October 2026.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Implements the role and objectives of the post
  • Responsible for planning, coordination, programming, reporting, information dissemination, advisory services, training and communication with other institutions.
  • Performs the professional duties of the department under the direction of the head of department.
  • Participates in training and professional support for staff in their daily work.
  • Promoting the effectiveness, welfare and well-being of service users
  • General household chores
  • Provides disabled people with personalised, individual support in their daily lives.
  • Implement and monitor service plans as well as the work plan.
  • Other duties as described in the job description

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Higher education in occupational therapy, social sciences, or other relevant fields. Professional qualification in a relevant field.
  • Experience in a similar role working with disabled people is desirable.
  • Collaboration and organisational skills
  • Autonomy in work, initiative and conscientiousness.
  • Good interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and a strong service-mindedness.
  • Knowledge of Icelandic is a requirement.
  • Good computer skills
  • Physical ability to carry out tasks in the workplace 
  • Knowledge of Icelandic is a requirement, A2 language standard ETM Self-Assessment Framework (coe.int)

The applicant must have a clean criminal record.

Salary is in accordance with the current collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the relevant trade union.
