The Weekend: Evolytes Adventure and Guitar Party
Logi and Stampi from the fantasy world of Evolytes are inviting children and families to a story time at the library on Saturday. Bjössi Thor's Guitar Party will be in Aegi 220 this weekend, and the town's museums are welcoming visitors over the weekend. The programme then continues next week with games, arts and crafts, book chats and music.
Coconut competition at the library
Who has more coconuts, Logi or Stampi? The best friends are both convinced they have more than the other. An adventure ensues where the children learn about numbers and comparing quantities. Yes, the weekend is wonderful in Hafnarfjörður and there's plenty to do for families.
Saturday 3 October, 1 pm–2 pm It will be read from The Coconut Contest by Írisi E. Gísladóttir, for story time at Hafnarfjörður Library in Firði. The book is the first reader from the Evolytes adventure world and is suitable for children aged 5–9.
Later the same day, 3–5 pm, met The library's anime club For 14–16 year-olds. It's a place where young anime fans can get together and share their interest.
Bjössi Thor on Äge
The guitar will take centre stage at Ægi 220 on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd October. The guitar festival begins at 8 p.m. on both evenings.
Friday night is dedicated to Jimi Hendrix. Bjössi Thor, Guðmundur Pétursson, Óskar Logi and Brynhildur Oddsdóttir join forces, with Fúsi Óttars on drums and Bjarni Sveinbjörnsson on bass.
On Saturday, jazz, funk and country take over. Andrés Þór and Börkur Hrafn will be among those performing, and Bjössi and Krummi Björgvins will pay tribute to Björgvin Halldórsson. Alongside the concert, there will be a photography exhibition by Ásta Magg, featuring pictures from previous years' Guitar Parties.
Art and history this weekend
Free adventures are everywhere but at the library. The exhibitions The prophecy, the museum's autumn exhibition, and Aurora Borealis An exhibition of works by Frost Fjalar is on display at Hafnarborg. Open 12–17 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Folk Museum also offers a journey into the past. The Packhouse, the Sievertsen House and the Beggubúð are open from 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Play and crafts on Monday
Let's now take a look at the new week. Monday, 5 October, 12–14 The open nursery offers Mummy Come along for a session of play and singing at the library. The sessions are for those at home with children aged 0–5. No booking is required, just turn up.
In the afternoon, 4–6 pm, The Monday craft session takes place in the art studio at the Bookshop. Materials are provided, and visitors can sit down and create together.
Music, sensory play and a book chat on Tuesday
Tuesday 6 October, 12–12.30 sings Rósalind Gísladóttir at the Hafnarborg lunchtime concert, accompanied by Antonia Hevesi.
There will also be plenty to do at the library:
- 13:00–14:30: Icelandic chat with volunteers of the Red Cross.
- 2–4 pm: Planet's Sensory Playtime for children, especially aged six months to four years, with parents or other carers. Admission is free and it is a good idea to bring a change of clothes.
- 5–6.45 pm: A sewing and design workshop for making costumes or your own clothes.
- 17:30–18:30: The Book Club Since For 16–25 year-olds. Participants discuss books based on theme-based questions, snacks are provided and participation is free.
