Prolonged power cut in the town centre and on Hvaleyrarbraut

News

There have been significant power cuts in Hafnarfjörður over the past few days and weeks. Repeated faults have occurred, affecting areas including the Sörla area, Kaldársel Road, the town centre and Hvaleyrarbraut. Repairs on the Sörla area and Kaldársel Road are due to be completed today, but expect the power cuts in the town centre and on Hvaleyrarbraut to continue until at least after the weekend. The cause is construction work in the area, with the resulting knock-on effects. There are also a number of individual light poles without lights, scattered throughout the town, which are being repaired on a daily basis as and when required.

Numerous single, unlit poles around town – please report.

There have been significant power cuts in Hafnarfjörður over the past few days and weeks. Repeated faults have occurred, affecting areas including the Sörla area, Kaldárselsveg, the town centre and Hvaleyrarbraut. Repairs on the Sörla area and Kaldársel Road are due to be completed today, but expect the power cuts in the town centre and on Hvaleyrarbraut to continue at least until after the weekend. The cause is construction work in the area, with the resulting knock-on effects. There are also a number of individual light poles without lights, scattered throughout the town, which are being repaired on a daily basis as and when required. There can be various reasons why a lamp is not working, for example, a blown bulb, a fault in the cable or in the transformer. Reports of streetlight failures have been received from residents in most neighbourhoods.

Report a lack of lighting in the feedback portal

Let's get reports of a lack of light straight into the right hands.

Please note that it is not sufficient to tag the City of Hafnarfjörður in posts on social media, either under the municipality's posts or on resident pages; instead, feedback must be submitted via the feedback portal. All reports are placed on a list for action as soon as time permits. Faults occur weekly, sometimes on entire streets, and the length of time a street remains without lights depends on the scale of the fault, but every effort is made to restore the lighting as quickly as possible. The upgrade of street lighting in Hafnarfjörður to LED has been progressing well, and it is expected to be largely completed in the new year. The vast majority of the lighting today is LED, and standards for light quality, safety and design are taken into account when installing new lighting. This work is taking place, alongside the council's 100% LED retrofitting, to install new controls for the entire town's lighting system, which will facilitate all diagnostic work and responses to reports of faulty lights. This work will take 2-3 years and, in the meantime, information and feedback regarding street lighting issues will need to be handled in close cooperation with the town's residents and businesses.
