Ash Wednesday 2024 in schools and institutions

Uncategorised

It is a cheerful tradition to celebrate Shrove Tuesday in Hafnarfjörður, as there is little more fun than dressing up in all sorts of costumes and having a good time. Schools in Hafnarfjörður arrange their programme for a shortened school day. The after-school clubs are open and, as usual, are colourful on this day.

Break-up on Ash Wednesday

It has been a good and joyful tradition to celebrate Shrove Tuesday in Hafnarfjörður, as there is little more fun than dressing up in all sorts of costumes and having a good time.

Ash Wednesday in Hafnarfjörður will be observed in the usual way. The school day for primary school pupils is shortened, and the school day will end at around 11 a.m. in all of the borough's primary schools, although times will vary between schools and year groups.

Ash Wednesday will be a busy day at Hafnarfjörður's nurseries, with costumes and festivities, but otherwise, the normal nursery routine will continue.

Museums and service centres welcome cheerful, singing children.

The City of Hafnarfjörður is not organising any special festivities in the town centre of Hafnarfjörður on Ash Wednesday, as in previous years. However, our staff at Hafnarfjörður Town Hall at Strandgata 6, the Hafnarfjörður Library and Hafnarborg will give a warm welcome to the singing, cheerful children.
