The Bereavement Centre and the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður have extended their cooperation agreement for four years — until 2028. The Bereavement Centre's services will therefore continue to be based in Centre for Quality of Life in St. Jó and offers education on the subject of grief counselling for primary schools and the town's institutions, as well as for others.

The Bereavement Centre is a perfect fit for the work of the St. Jó. Centre for Quality of Life, as the centre promotes an improved quality of life. It upholds the spirit, warmth and care that have always been a part of the house. This is the spirit that the Sisters of St. Joseph created in the house.

„People know about us here at the Centre for Quality of Life and we are ready when they need us. The Centre for Grief has established itself and its operations are growing in the premises with the support of the City of Hafnarfjörður. We feel extremely comfortable at the Lífsgæðasetur and are delighted to be here to stay,“ says Berglind Arnardóttir, chairperson of the Centre for Grief.

Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, the Mayor, signed the agreement on behalf of the City of Hafnarfjörður. „We at Hafnarfjörður Municipality are very proud to support the work of the Bereavement Centre and thus continue to give the town's residents the opportunity to use the important service it provides. It is extremely valuable for people at the most difficult time in their lives, when a loved one passes away, to be able to turn to the Bereavement Centre and the good people who work there,“ says Rósa.

Grief counselling aims to improve public health by promoting and supporting people's mental, physical and social well-being following the loss of a loved one. Aim Bereavement centres to support bereaved people and their families, both children and adults, providing them with hope, strength and ways to work through their grief.

Educational talks and support group activities are regular features at the Bereavement Centre. Many bereaved people attend support groups at the Bereavement Centre, and this is the most extensive activity. The groups have different focuses, and there are many smaller groups within each of them. Sorgarmiðstöð also offers a counselling service, where you can request an individual or group session.
