Hooray for the primary school pupil councils
An annual joint student training is held for all student councils in the primary schools of Hafnarfjörður. The training was held at Ásvellir this week, where the boards of all the student councils met, along with the department heads of the after-school clubs at each school. In total, around 110 pupils who had fun, created and planned the activities for the winter term under the able guidance of seasoned professionals. The student workshop is both a way to empower the young people to participate actively and to encourage them in their endeavours.

„Here, enthusiastic young people meet, ideas are sparked and things happen. Kristinsdóttir, professional manager for leisure activities and prevention at the City of Hafnarfjörður.
This year's training began with an icebreaker, followed by rights education from Unicef and talks on communication, child-friendly local authorities, and the role of the student councils. The students were exemplary and really enthusiastic, and the staff were fantastic.
Experience in social skills and organisation
The student societies aim to encourage students to participate in social activities, share information with their fellow students, and bring their ideas and challenges to the attention of, or simply into action, the relevant authorities. An annual election is held for the student council, and its members serve as role models for other students and as a link between the student body and the school's management and staff. Two student council representatives sit on the school board.
