The headquarters in Hafnarfjörður

A new Icelandair world welcomed Mayor Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir when she visited the airline's headquarters in Hafnarfjörður during Advent. Around 550 of the company's 3,800 employees are permanently based there. Though not 'permanently' in the sense that their workspace is fixed, as the space is open-plan and every desk is empty at the start of the day.

„Icelandair's headquarters are exceptionally elegant in their Nordic style, and a great deal of thought has gone into how the facilities best support the business,“ says the mayor, who this year has paid an informal visit to a number of companies in Hafnarfjörður.

„We Kópavogs residents can be proud that this well-established Icelandic company has now moved its operations to our town. This is a sought-after workplace in a highly desirable location. Heartfelt congratulations to the Icelandair staff on their magnificent building and facilities.“

Have been on the fields for a decade

Icelandair was not unfamiliar with the area before the development of the headquarters began. The airline's training centre, which was built in 2014, was already located there. The office accommodation is extremely impressive and the facilities for staff are exemplary, including a fitness centre and a bicycle storage area where batteries can be charged.

Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO, and Elísabet Helgadóttir, Managing Director of Human Resources and Culture, gave the mayor a tour of the facilities, which house crew theoretical and practical training, office operations, the service centre, the service office and the control centre. Crew also gather in the building before heading to Keflavik Airport.

Putting the finishing touches to the last rooms

Rósa also met Guðmundur Tryggvi Sigurðsson, who was in charge of the development, but the headquarters were designed by Nordic Arch, Nordic Office of Architecture. Guðmundur Tryggvi showed the mayor around the part of the building that is still unfinished.

Icelandair staff broke ground on the company's new headquarters in Hafnarfjörður in September 2022. The plan was to begin operations by the end of 2024. They have certainly succeeded.

Heartfelt congratulations, Icelandair!
