The collections are open and ready for you on Museum Night

The town's museums are open to everyone on Museum Night on 7 February between 18:00 and 22:00. At Hafnarborg, there will be an art workshop and a torch-lit tour. At the Folk Museum, there will be a brand-new treasure hunt in the Packhouse, music and a lecture. Then, Einar Lövdahl will be performing at the library. Yes, there will be plenty going on.

Night of the Museums colours the town on 7 February

„Museum Night is a fantastic opportunity to host events at the museum that are a little different from the usual programme most people are familiar with, and I encourage everyone to come and join us,“ says Aldís Arnardóttir, director of Hafnarborg.

„This year, for example, we are offering an unconventional torch-lit tour of Pétur Thomsen's exhibition, which has been extremely well attended and has attracted a great deal of attention. The works are all taken at night, so it will be exciting to see how Búi Bjarmar will shed new light on the exhibition,“ she says.

All museums open until 22:00.

There are many more events, and it's worth checking out everything on offer. The evening will be a memorable one if you take part.

An art workshop will take place at 18:00 at Hafnarborg. There, visitors will have the opportunity to experiment with composition and thus train their visual skills by arranging found objects. At 20:00, Búi Bjarmar Aðalsteinsson will guide visitors around Pétur Thomsen's photography exhibition., Settlement, where you will walk through a darkened hall with a torch.

It will be fun to stroll around the museums on Museum Night.

A draught in the library

Einar Lövdahl, writer, musician and Icelandic scholar, will be holding an author's evening at the Library between 8 pm and 10 pm. At the start of the programme, Einar will give a brief talk about his novel. Through draught, which was published by Mál og menning last year, and read an extract from the book. He will then perform original songs with bittersweet lyrics. He will then round off the programme with a light-hearted talk on cursing in modern Icelandic.

The Folk Museum is open until the evening.

There will be a packed programme at the Folk Museum. Open house from 18-22. A new scavenger hunt will be on offer around the Packhouse, the Sívertsen House and the Beggubúð. Folklorist Símon Jón Jóhannsson will give a lecture at 20:00. Black cats, a full moon and red-headed women. Then they play Margrét Lára Jónsdóttir on violin and Tómas Vigur Magnús on piano will play some classical and beautiful songs from 9 p.m.

You can also view magnificent artefacts in the darkness at the Beggubúð and see textiles, national costumes and jewellery showcasing the bathhouse works at the Sívertsens' House.

This will be fun.
