Winter Lights 2025 is being held this weekend, 6–9 February, across all six municipalities of the Capital Region. This annual festival of light and darkness consists of three main events: Museum Night, Swimming Pool Night and the Light Trail. Over 150 events are on offer, with numerous artists taking part to create a unique atmosphere in the municipalities of the capital region. Including right here in Hafnarfjörður.

Museums, swimming and splendour of lights in Hafnarfjörður
Here in Hafnarfjörður, we are enjoying Swimming Pool Night and Museum Night together on 7th and 8th February. The museums in Hafnarfjörður, Ásvallalaug and Suðurbæjarlaug are taking an active part in the Winter Festival with a varied and entertaining programme for all ages. Additionally, both LitlaGallerý and Svavar, owner of Ban Kúnn, have linked up with this year's festival, much to the delight of the local council. This weekend is also the last chance to enjoy the splendour of the lights in Hellisgerði.
Museum Night in Hafnarfjörður
The town's museums are open to everyone on Museum Night on Friday, 7th February, between 6 pm and 10 pm, and as always, admission is free. Art workshop and torch-lit tour at Hafnarborg. Scavenger hunt, an intriguing lecture, fascinating artefacts and classical music at the Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History. A triple-bill authors„ evening and family fun at the Hafnarfjörður Library. Cargo art? by Þorgeir Ólason “Togga„ at LG – Litla Gallerý and “If They Could Talk", a photography exhibition by Svavar at Ban Kúnn
Swimming Pool Night in Hafnarfjörður
There will be life and vibrancy in two of Hafnarfjörður's three swimming pools on Saturday, 8th February from 4 pm to 8 pm. Entry to the Suðurbæjarlaug will be free from 16:00-18:00, and the ever-energetic Zumba instructors will be leading Aqua Zumba at 17:00. The Andaleikar will be held at Ásvallalaug, with free entry to the pool from 16:00-20:00. Visitors to Ásvallalaug will get to experience a unique evening where all sorts of ducks will be in charge. Even Donald Duck will be on the big screen. There will be a diving competition and a swimming race, with prizes for the winners.
