The Post Office's April Fool's Joke

News

Like many others, the Post Office played a prank on the 1st of April, getting the City of Hafnarfjörður and the Sörli Riding Club on board. It is not entirely true that riding horses will be used again in the Post Office's service, but there are plans to add wheeled horses to the fleet, specifically electric scooters for postmen.

„To start with, we have purchased several electric bikes which will be used when spring arrives. A bike has already been sent to Siglufjörður, which is where the idea originated. There is less postal mail now, so you have to travel long distances, and it can be useful to have a vehicle like this. It also helps that the e-bikes are so environmentally friendly,“ says Vilborg Ásta, Marketing Manager for Pósturinn.

„Environmental and climate issues are always at the forefront of our minds. One of the Post's biggest climate-related projects is the transition of its vehicle fleet to clean energy. Last year, we put together a roadmap for the fleet's energy transition and renewal, detailing how and when the Post's vehicles of all shapes and sizes will run on renewable, domestic energy sources. The ultimate goal is to have the energy transition completed by 2030,“ says Vilborg.

She would like to finally thank Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, the mayor of Hafnarfjörður, and Atli Már Ingólfsson, chairman of Sörli, for taking part in the April Fool's prank. „It was a good-natured joke that people hopefully enjoyed.“
