Seeds to the day-care centres – home-growing seems to be going well
Recently, packets of mixed herbs were distributed to all homes in Hafnarfjörður. This was a summer gift from the health-promoting town of Hafnarfjörður, intended to encourage growth, development and well-being, and perhaps not least, a shared interest and enjoyable moments together for the whole family. This week, all the after-school clubs in Hafnarfjörður also received seed packs as a gift, with an encouragement to grow things indoors.

A cheerful group of managers at each location was on hand to gratefully receive the gifts in the fine weather that has characterised life in the Fjord in recent days.
A wide range of activities will be running through the leisure centres in the summer of 2021.

Gardening is a rewarding activity for everyone – young and old.
These are seed packs containing five seeds of aromatic herbs for growing your own. The town's seed packs have now been sent to all homes in Hafnarfjörður that accept bulk mail, and have been distributed to staff and pupils at all of the town's leisure centres. It is planned to give more groups in Hafnarfjörður seed packs specifically to spark an interest in growing their own produce and the spiritual and physical nourishment that comes with such cultivation.
The cultivation is going well, for example, at the Smáralundur nursery school, which received a visit and encouragement from the mayor about a month ago. Here is a picture of the cultivation there, and it is probably time for repotting.

An ambitious health strategy for the health town of Hafnarfjörður
The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður entered into an agreement with the Office of the Director of Public Health in March 2015 to participate in the 'Health Promoting Community' project, and the municipality, in collaboration with residents, staff and other stakeholders have developed the City of Hafnarfjörður's health strategy and put forward an action plan that directly addresses the strategy. One of the main objectives of the Health Strategy for Hafnarfjörður is to foster the general well-being of residents, both mental and physical, at all ages, and to strengthen and promote self-esteem and good mental health. The health strategy supports the City of Hafnarfjörður's vision for the future of increasing the well-being of its residents through preventative measures.
