Development in step with changes in society
The decision to change opening hours is based on an analysis of the numerical trends in visits, telephone calls, online chats and service utilisation, alongside developments and changes to opening hours at other local authorities and public institutions. This development is in line with societal trends, influenced by factors such as the reduction of the working week and increased opportunities for self-service. The City of Hafnarfjörður Service Centre was opened on 1 September 2003, and the staff of the service centre and the City of Hafnarfjörður have striven to ensure that service to residents is always exemplary. The council's smart steps aim to use information technology to improve the quality and efficiency of its services and to establish even better communication with residents through methods and at times that best suit the community's needs at any given time.
