Cultural and health walks in Hafnarfjörður 2021
This summer, guided town walks are offered every Wednesday. Most walks take about an hour, participation is free and everyone is welcome.
This summer, guided town tours are offered every Wednesday. Most walks take about an hour, participation is free and everyone is welcome. The walks are a collaboration between Hafnarfjörður Library, the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum, Hafnarborg and Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður.
2 June at 20:00 – The Sculpture Park 30 years
Art historian and guide Eiríkur Hallgrímsson leads a walk through the sculpture park at Víðistaðatún. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Art Festival held in Hafnarfjörður, which laid the foundation for the sculpture park. The procession from Víðistaðakirkja.
9th June at 8 p.m. – Poem Walk around Hvaleyrarvatn
Walker Einar Skúlason leads a walk on the paths around Hvaleyrarvatn. Every now and then, there will be a stop and verses will be recited with the help of a few members of the group. The path from the car park to the west of the lake leads to Völlum.
16th June at 17:00 – 1001 shoes – a children's walk with stories and songs
An easy walk for the youngest age group accompanied by adults, where history takes place with
songs and games. Information leaflets available from the reception desk. The walk from Jófríðarstaðir.
23rd June at 18:00 – Family walk through the Fjaðrár
Margrét Gauja Magnúsdóttir leads a short and easy walk through Gjárnar. The family will be there.

30 June at 20:00 – The Corner Shopkeeper

Valgerður Hróðmarsdóttir leads a walk along Værðarstíg in the grounds of the Forestry Society.

14 July at 20:00 – The Artworks and History of Hafnarfjörður
Aldís Arnardóttir, Director of Hafnarborg, and Björn Pétursson, Municipal Curator of Antiquities,

Ólafur Þór Ágústsson, manager of Keiliskot Golf Club, leads a walk through

Atli Rúnarsson, an archaeologist, leads a walk around the remains of the settlement of Þorbjarnarstaðir, which was inhabited from the 14th century until the 20th century. The path from Gerðið at Straumsvík.

Eiríksína Eyja Ásgrímsdóttir, a teacher and literary scholar, leads a historical walk between
the churches of Hafnarfjörður. There she discusses architectural history, culture and social relations in

Guide Ólafur Sveinsson leads a family walk for energetic children and families.
