Let's think about daily exercise.
The 'Cycle to Work' project will take place from 5th-25th May. Registrations will open on 21st April, and you can sign up at any time during the competition or until 25th May. For many, 'Cycle to Work' is the sweetest sign of spring. Although the country is still facing considerable exceptional circumstances, it is more important than ever to look after your health and daily exercise. Companies and organisations across the country can now start considering registering their workplace for the challenge, thereby encouraging all staff to take part, even if they are working from home. It is important for workplaces across the country to consider their staff morale during these unprecedented times, and the 'Cycle to Work' project is a great way to lift spirits and bring the team together, whilst of course observing the 2-metre social distancing rule. The same approach as last year will be taken for those who work from home, where the implementation is simple. People walk, cycle or travel in other active ways the distance equivalent to their commute and log those kilometres into the system. You can start or end your working day by walking or cycling to and from work.
Cycling is a great outdoor activity, exercise and form of fitness.
The aim of the project is to promote daily exercise and to raise awareness of active travel, of which cycling is both an active and environmentally friendly mode of transport. Cycling is a great way to get outdoors, exercise and keep fit. Just remember to keep a good distance between other cyclists. The Icelandic Olympic and Sports Association encourages the nation to exercise daily and, not least, to take part in the fun 'Cycling to Work' project.
Practical information
Competition is held in eight categories for the most participation days, proportionally to the total number of employees at workplaces, and in a team competition for the most kilometres. The main aim is to get as many people as possible to travel by bicycle, walking, bus, roller skates or another active mode of transport as often as possible.
