The City of Hafnarfjörður has entered into an agreement with Barnaheill for staff training on the prevention of sexual violence against children. In recent years, nearly 1,000 of the city's employees have attended a course tailored to the needs of different groups. The aim is always to prevent abuse and to learn how to respond if issues arise. Therefore, there is a clear benefit for everyone involved in taking part and contributing to improving the safety of children in Hafnarfjörður. ÍBH and the sports movement in Hafnarfjörður have placed great emphasis on this issue in recent years, and the results of that work can be seen in, for example, the procedures on the websites of sports clubs.
Online course for all interested
This spring, a good, targeted and short online course called 'Five Steps to Protect Children from Sexual Violence' will be on offer, delivered by psychologist Sigríður Björnsdóttir. A lecture will be held. Online at midday on Tuesday, 12 April at 12:00 and is about 50 minutes. Link to the meeting here. This time is convenient for many gym staff as PE lessons are on Easter holiday.
The meeting notice with a link to the lecture will be sent to sports clubs, who will then pass it on to their members. The lecture is intended for adults who work with children and young people. It is also for parents and others responsible for children.
The presentation is about:
- Research and prevalence of sexual violence at home and abroad
- Preventive methods and guidance after violence has occurred
- Methods for promoting a safer environment for adults, children and young people
The frequency of violence is discussed here and elsewhere, and the factors that help people to discuss prevention, such as how to talk to children about the body, boundaries and relationships, are discussed. In addition, it discusses ways to improve communication among adults about unwanted sexual behaviour between children or young people, and how to address and stop such behaviour.
