The City of Hafnarfjörður was the first municipality in Iceland to receive equal pay certification and the certified equal pay logo from the Ministry of Welfare in August 2017. Since then, great ambition has been invested in the City of Hafnarfjörður's equal pay system and its continuous development. We are very pleased to report that this year the municipality received special praise for the system, which is considered effective and goes beyond what the standard requires.
Continued positive development of the equal pay system
The results of the 2023 review of the City of Hafnarfjörður's equal pay system show continued positive development towards full pay equality within the municipality. An unexplained gender pay gap does not exist within the municipality, with deviations of less than 21%. The deviations are largely explained by collective agreements. This result is in line with the objectives that the City of Hafnarfjörður has set for itself. The aim of implementing and developing an equal pay system is to establish and maintain pay equality within Hafnarfjörður Municipality and to fulfil the employer's obligations to ensure equal rights, pay equal wages, and guarantee that all genders enjoy the same terms and conditions for the same or equally valued work.
The next maintenance certification will take place in May 2024.
