Come out for a walk every Wednesday this summer
Guided town walks will be offered every Wednesday this summer. Most walks take about an hour, participation is free and all are welcome. The walks are a collaboration between Hafnarfjörður Library, the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum, Hafnarborg and Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður.
5th June at 8 pm - A walk around the grounds
Historian Stefán Pálsson leads a walk through Vellir in Hafnarfjörður, one of the youngest neighbourhoods in the capital region. The walk from Hraunvallaskóli.
12. júní kl. 17 – Blómakærleikur
Harpa Gústavsdóttir is leading a love walk for children at Hvaleyrarvatn. There will be a chat about love and what it means to us. The walk will start from the car park on the west side of Hvaleyrarvatn (near Völlum).
19. júní kl. 20 – Fyrsta vatnsveitan 1909
Jónatan Garðarsson leads a walk to Lækjarbotnar, where the town's first water supply was installed in 1909. The group from the Hlíðarendi nursery school.
26. júní kl. 20 – Gamli bærinn og sagan
Björn Pétursson, the Hafnarfjörður town archaeologist, leads a walk through the old town. The walk from the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum's Packhouse.
3. júlí kl. 20 – Gengið um Klifsholt
Valgerður Hróðmarsdóttir leads a walk around Klifsholt. The walk from the Helgafell car park.
10. júlí kl. 20 – Kennileiti í Hafnarfirði
Ólöf Bjarnadóttir, a museum curator, will lead a walk where selected landmarks in Hafnarfjörður will be examined. The walk will depart from Hafnarborg.
17. júlí kl. 20 – The water beislað – Jóhannes Reykdal og Hamarskotslækurinn
Hans Unnþór Ólason guides participants through the stream and explores its history in relation to the electrification and hydroelectric power station of Jóhannes Reykdal. From the Reykdals Dam (west of the stream at Kinnarnar).
24. júlí kl. 20 – Rafmögnuð framtíð – línuslóðir, lífsgæðin og ljósið
Steinunn Þorsteinsdóttir and Einar S. Einarsson from Landsnet walk the route of the Hamranes line, which has kept the lights burning since 1969. The walk will start at the power station at Hamranes.
31. júlí kl. 20 – TPub crawl around the music venues in the city centre
Jónatan Garðarsson will lead a walk through the town centre, covering the musical history of the area. The walk from the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum's Packhouse.
7. ágúst kl. 17 – Manyskylduganga – Straumur, fjaran, hraunið og eyðibýli
Kolbrún Kristínardóttir, a paediatric physiotherapist, leads a comfortable and accessible family walk through the lava field and along the shore at Straumur. The walk will start from the car park at Straum.
14. ágúst kl. 17 – BarPregnancy with an artistic twist
Tómas Leó Halldórsson, a graphic designer and visual artist, leads an art walk from Hafnarfjörður Library to Víðistaðatún. The walk will start from the Hafnarfjörður Library.
21. ágúst kl. 20 – NowA guided walk around Ástjörn
Bryndís Jóna Jónsdóttir, a mindfulness teacher, leads the walk around Ástjörnina and gives participants the opportunity to experience the surroundings in a new way. The group from the nursery school Tjarnarási.
28. ágúst kl. 20 – HideDufólk in Hafnarfjörður
Simon Jon Jóhannsson, a folklorist, tells of elves and hidden folk in Hafnarfjörður. The walk will set off from Flensburg.
