Construction of an eco-certified house – lecture

Þórey Edda Elísdóttir, a civil engineer and former elite athlete, will be giving a lecture at the Environment and Health Festival on the implementation and her experience, entitled: Building a certified house – why and what are the main challenges? The lecture will cover what is involved in building a certified Swan house and how these houses differ from „ordinary“ houses. Thórey is currently building her own house in Skarðshlíð, Hafnarfjörður, which is set to be certified Swan, and she will share her experience of the process. Þórey Edda runs the Facebook page Ecodesign | Facebook about the process and the implementation.

In May 2019, the Hafnarfjörður Town Council approved the implementation of special measures to encourage developers to obtain Swan Certification, BREEAM certification or a comparable certification for new buildings, including in the form of a discount on the plot price. The town council also approved that the discount on the plot price in Hafnarfjörður for a Swan-certified house shall be 20-30% in line with the BREEAM rating.
