A historic moment in the harbour of Hafnarfjörður
For the first time since passenger ships began visiting Hafnarfjörður regularly, three cruise ships are simultaneously in the harbour. The ships, all from the French company Ponant, set off on voyages around Iceland and the Arctic, using Hafnarfjörður as an important home and service port. Together, they have on board nearly 2,000 passengers and crew members.

For the first time since passenger ships began visiting Hafnarfjörður regularly, three cruise ships are simultaneously in the harbour. The ships, all from the French company Ponant, set off on voyages around Iceland and the Arctic, using Hafnarfjörður as an important home and service port. Together, they carry nearly 2,000 passengers and crew, in addition to which numerous local service providers are involved in the ships' reception and servicing.
New service building for use this spring
To cope with increased traffic, the Port of Hafnarfjörður opened a new service building at Suðurbakki in May. Here, passengers can wait comfortably for departures or other travel services, which improves both the service and the experience for visitors to Hafnarfjörður.

This summer will be a record year for cruise ship receptions, further confirming the importance of Hafnarfjörður as a home and service port for voyages around Iceland and the Arctic. Hafnarfjörður is thus beginning to play a greater role as a destination and service hub for cruise ships – creating vitality, jobs and valuable opportunities for the town.
